In July 2022, the WIMMS Initiative hosted a webinar in association with the Society for Marine Mammalogy Diversity and Inclusion Committee that focused on the experiences of women in marine mammal science. The goal of the webinar was to openly share the stories, successes, and challenges of women from a diversity of backgrounds, career stages and sectors, and family considerations. The underlying motivation of the webinar was that in order to bring about the progress and change needed to advance the careers of women in marine mammal science, we need to spend time talking with and listening to women in this field.
Webinar registrants also had access to a free virtual screening of the film “Picture a Scientist” for a 3-day period overlapping the webinar. The bulk of the webinar was recorded; however, due to the sensitivity of some themes, a portion of the panel discussion was not recorded.
We hope you will find this webinar interesting, informative, and inspiring.
